Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA)
PTA is the key raw material for the manufacture of polyester and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The largest application is in PET for the polyester industry to produce industrial and textile fibers, PET-bottles, film and molded product applications. It is a white powder that is produced from the oxidation of para -xylene (PX).
Although there are a range of different technologies available to produce PTA the general concept is common to all of them. It involves the oxidation of para-xylene to crude terephthalic acid (CTA) catalyzed by metals (e.g., Co2+, Mn2+) and bromide in acetic acid. The CTA is then purified to obtain purified terephthalic acid (PTA).
Shepherd Widnes is a leading manufacturer and supplier of high quality Cobalt- and Manganese-salts to the PTA industry. At Shepherd Widnes we produce cobalt- and manganese acetate crystals and a wide range of pure and mixed solutions at various concentrations, fully tailored to our customers needs.
