Surface Coatings

Cobalt chemicals are used to enhance the properties of substrates by electroplating and by electro less deposition of cobalt containing coatings.

Electroplating involves the coating of an electrically conductive object with a layer of metal using electrical current. Usually, the process is used to deposit an adherent surface layer of a metal or a combination of metals having some desired property (e.g., abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection, improvement of aesthetic qualities, etc.) onto a substrate lacking that property. Co/Ni, Co/W, Co/Mo, Co/Bi, Co/P, Co/Pd, and Co/Zn are used in broad range of applications.

Cobalt provides corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, useful magnetic properties, low thermal emission, and good decorative appearance.

Shepherd Widnes products are produced under tightly controlled conditions to the specifications that are necessary for high quality surface coatings.
